VTT Research Professor Nils-Olof Nylund has written a report on electric cars for the Ministry of Transport and Communications. According to the report there is no need to rush the adoption of electric cars but it is important that suitable operational conditions for the adoption are created now. Electric cars will according to the report have little effect on traffic congestion or the growth of private car traffic. At the moment plug-in hybrids are considered to be more useful and cost efficient in a country with large distances, but investments in the research and development of electric cars are important.
