The GM produced fully electric Chevrolet Volt, or as it is known in Europe the Opel Ampera, was awarded the title of European Car of the Year by a panel composed of leading automotive industry journalists from across Europe. The award is expected to go some way in paving over many of the difficulties and complications the Volt has faced following its launch last year, including reports of battery fires and broad political criticism in the US. These complications have led to sales numbers which have failed to meet GM’s initial expectations as well as those of market analysts.
