The recently published findings of a new study, conducted by the public-private Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and the consultancy Element Energy, suggest that electric vehicles will continue to be more costly than gas-powered equivalents until, at least, 2020.  Furthermore, the study also found that, in the UK, electric vehicles out price traditional equivalents by £5,000 (€5,680).  The study found that, despite the significantly lower cost of running an electric vehicle, only significant advancements in battery technology, over the next 15-20 years, will be able to lower the cost of EVs sufficiently to make them competitive.
