According to a new report published by the World Meterological Organization (WMO) carbon dioxide concentrations have reached their highest recorded rate, 389 parts per million, and show no sign of slowing. Furthermore, these emissions will continue to linger in the earth’s atmosphere for decades, even if the world were to go entirely zero-carbon today. These new figures exceed even the worst of seven emissions scenarios projected in 2001 by a U.N. expert climate panel.
