American environmental organization World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development have developed two new tools to assist companies in calculating their greenhouse gas emissions. The first of these tools helps companies measure the amount of GHG emissions released throughout a company’s supply chain, as well as in the use and disposal of the products produced by the company. The second tool allows companies to calculate the emissions of specific greenhouse gases, including; CO2 and methane, across a specific product’s entire lifecycle. These voluntary standards were developed in cooperation with over 60 international corporations and are expected to be widely adopted as they provide such corporations with clear strategic and competitive benefits.
