The Eco Urban Living initiative will host an information event on the morning of April 18th for those interested in learning more about the initiative’s goals and progress to date. The event will feature speakers from several of the initiative’s partners as well as companies participating in the electric vehicle trials, including: the City of Espoo, Valmet Automotive, A2B, the Hanken School of Economics, Aalto University and the Synocus Group. These speakers will provide a comprehensive overview of the initiative’s efforts to spur the growth of the Finnish electric vehicle industry while exploring how best to integrate electric vehicles into the lives of the T3 area’s residents.

Following the speakers’ presentations, attendees will get a chance to familiarize themselves with the electric vehicles being used in the demonstration.

Eco Urban Living -hanke järjestää infotilaisuuden 18. huhtikuuta Kino Tapiolassa niille, jotka ovat kiinnostuneita tietämään lisää hankkeen tavoitteista ja etenemisestä. Infotilaisuuteen osallistuu puhujia useista hankkeen yhteistyökumppaneista mukaan lukien: Espoon kaupunki, Valmet Automotive, A2B, Hanken, Aalto-yliopisto sekä Synocus. Puhujat tarjoavat kattavan esityksen hankkeen pyrkimyksestä kiihdyttää suomalaisen sähköautoklusterin kasvua ja tutkia, kuinka sähköautoista tehdään osa T3-alueen asukkaiden arkielämää.Esitysten jälkeen Eco Urban Living tarjoaa mahdollisuuden tutustua sähköautoihin.

The 2012 EVS26 electric vehicles conference and exhibit will take place over 4 days, from May 6th to May 9th, 2012. Electric cars and other electric vehicles will be available for test drives starting Sunday, May 6th. Workshops will also be open on Sunday, May 6th. Plenaries, lectures and additional panel discussions will run Monday, May 7th to Wednesday, May 9th. The largest electric drive and electric car display in the world will take place May 6th to May 8th.

Do you have a vision for how out society can help tackle the challenges of global warming? Are you interested in influencing the future development of Espoo’s T3 area (Otaniemi, Keilaniemi and Tapiola)?

The Eco Urban Living initiative is hosting a free screening of the Sundance Film Festival favorite ”No Impact Man”at the Aalto Design Factory next Thursday, March 1st, from 5:30pm to 8pm. Come join us for an engaging evening as you follow the Beaven family’s efforts to live a year in Brooklyn while making no net environmental impact. Snacks, drinks and cupcakes from Cupcake Goddess will be served!

Doors open at 5:30pm. Film begins at 6pm, the film runs 93min, after which you are welcome to stay and discuss the issues raised in the film and how the Eco Urban Living initiative together with the Otaniemi community can help to solve these challenges. 

At the screening, we will also be launching an exciting competition which promises to give one lucky winner the chance to test drive an electric vehicle for a week!

Tsinghua University and Synocus Group have developed a new network called the World Alliance of Low Carbon Cities (WALCC). In connection with the WALCC, the 2nd Low Carbon City Development World Forum will be held in Beijing, China on 14th – 15th, May, 2012. This is a high-level conference which will be attended by leading researchers, companies and city delegations with a strong interest in furthering the development of low-carbon cities. The 2nd Low Carbon City Development World Forum also serves as the 6th Sino-Finnish Innovativeness Forum.

Fifth Sino-Finnish Innovativeness Forum

The Fifth Sino-Finnish Innovativeness Forum was held in Espoo, Finland on September 27th.

The bi-annual forum brings together business leaders, government officials and leading researchers to discuss a variety of issues relating to the grand challenges facing our societies today. The Fourth forum was held in Shenzen this past spring (May 12th - 13th), the focus was on Eco-conscious urban living, energy conservation and carbon emissions. The focus of this fifth forum is on the concept of low carbon city development.  The Forum will feature a wide range of speakers ranging from representatives of national governments to leading researchers in the fields of low-carbon technology and electric vehicles.

The Forum's program includes addresses from representatives from Valmet Automotive, Fortum, the City of Espoo and Tekes - the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. The Forum's program is divided into four themes, which are: "Eco Urban Living Landscape", "Exploring the potential of EV", "Practice for a better, greener urban life" and "World Alliance for Low Carbon Cities".
