Fisker Automotive

First introduced at the 2008 North American International Auto Show, the Fisker Karma is the first car from Fisker Automotive, a California based auto maker founded by acclaimed auto designer Henrik Fisker and industry veteran Bernhard Koehler, who established the company with the goal of creating environmentally conscious cars.

A highly innovative electric vehicle with extended range and a 403 hp power output from a pair of electric motors, the Karma also includes a 2.2L petrol engine which powers an onboard generator as well as enabling the car to recharge its batteries on the go.  With no mechanical link between gas engine and drive wheels the Karma’s internal combustion engine functions only to turn the attached 175 kW generator sending power directly to its two electric traction motors.

In addition to its electric powertrain, the Fisker Karma includes several other environmentally minded features, such as a solar paneled roof, which aids in the recharging of the Lithium-Ion batteries, as well as an eco-friendly interior which is composed of salvaged lumber.

Valmet Automotive not only produces the Fisker Karma but also serves as an engineering partner to Fisker Automotive. The partnership benefits both companies, as Fisker Automotive can rely on premium manufacturing quality and Valmet Automotive is able to continue to expand its experience in the future-oriented field of electric vehicle development.
