The world’s cities and municipalities play an integral role in the fight against climate change.  The transformation of the world’s cities to a more sustainable reality is imperative in ensuring the endurance and continued vitality of our environment for several reasons.  First among these is the growing trend of global urbanization.  At present, while the world’s cities account for a mere 2% of the earth’s surface, they contain half the globe’s population, account for two-thirds of its energy use and 75% of all energy related CO2 emissions.

The population density enforced by the limited space available, makes cities ideally placed to significantly reduce global carbon-dioxide emissions.

Thus, cities are uniquely situated to capitalize on an eco-conscious and motivated population’s desire to significantly reform their environments.
